Residents of a multi-storey building in Mykolaiv complain about an emergency pipe that can flood the basement

Residents of an apartment building at 35A Teatralna Street complain about the emergency condition of a part of the intra-building networks in the basement. According to the people, there is constant dampness in the basement and they are worried that the pipe may burst at any moment.

The residents published an appeal in the Contact Centre of Mykolaiv City Council.

According to the residents, the main cast-iron pipe and valves in the basement are completely rusted and in very poor condition. The photos they provided show large areas of corrosion. People complain that the pipe is constantly leaking.

It is noted that as a result, the basement is regularly flooded, which poses risks to the operation of utilities, including the heat meter. Outraged residents note that the pipe can burst at any time and flood the basement.

«As a resident of the house at 35A Teatralna Street, I am outraged by this outrage! Our basement is not a basement, but some kind of swamp because of this rotten pipe! How long can we endure this? Every day we risk being left without water, heat and with mould in the house! This is not just an inconvenience, it is a threat to our health and safety. Why do the utility companies ignore our complaints? I demand to come immediately, inspect this disaster and replace the pipes, not patch them up as usual», writes Mykola Belonohov.

The residents published a complaint back in October, but as of November, the situation has not changed.

«We warned them, but no one did anything! Our house is rotting, the rusty pipe is about to burst», the residents say.

The management company «City for People», which maintains the building, told NikVesti that part of the cold water supply and sewerage pipes in the basement had previously been completely replaced.

At the same time, the node through which cold water enters the building from the city network remained cast iron, as the point of separation of the balance with the supplier is in the foundation of the building.

The management company notes that these 15 centimetres of pipe should be replaced by the water utility workers, but they have not yet done so because «management has not given them the command».

The company also adds that as of today, no leaks have been recorded in this area.

The management company also pointed out that there is a separate problem with the sewage system in the courtyard of the building, so the sewage can rise and enter the basement. According to «City for people», «Mykolaivvodokanal», the water utility promised to flush the network to remove blockages and reduce the risk of repeated flooding.

Earlier it was reported that residents of a house at 340 Bohoiavlenskyi Avenue in Mykolaiv complained about the management company «City for People». According to them, the company charges maintenance fees, although it is no longer related to the building.

Residents of the houses on Kosmonavtiv Street also complained about the emergency condition of the entrances, which were damaged by Russian shelling two years ago. In response, the management company «City for People. Mykolaiv» replied that there was no money for repairs and pointed to the debt of the residents themselves. After that, the management company «City for People. Mykolaiv» stated that it was not their responsibility to clean the area around the garbage containers at 34 Oliinyka Street.
