The Mykolaiv Regional Council plans to transfer seven modular boiler houses to the city to ensure their proper maintenance and operation in the event of blackouts.

The relevant draft decision was considered during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Social Policy, Healthcare and Veterans' Rights, according to NikVesti.

Iryna Tkachenko, Head of the Health Department of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, explained that the International Organisation for Migration had provided hospitals with seven modular boilers to provide heat to medical facilities in the event of prolonged power outages.

«Given that these boilers require appropriate specialists to operate and maintain them, it was decided to transfer them to the city council with further transfer to «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» for effective use during blackouts», said Iryna Tkachenko.

According to the draft decision, the value of the seven boiler houses received in 2024 is 81.9 million hryvnias. They were distributed among five medical institutions in the region.

The members of the commission supported the project but recommended that the document be finalised. In particular, it is necessary to obtain the consent of the humanitarian aid provider to transfer the boiler houses, as well as the approval of the Mykolaiv City Council to accept them.

In June, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated 1.1 billion hryvnias to prepare Mykolaiv for the next heating season. The city plans to install new boiler houses to replace the damaged CHP plant. This includes the purchase of 18 modular boiler houses with a total capacity of over 70 megawatts. According to the Prime Minister, this will ensure heat in the homes of the townspeople during the coming winter.

Earlier it was reported that Mykolaiv would not be able to complete the project to build block-modular boiler houses, for which the government has allocated 1.1 billion hryvnias, before the start of the heating season.

This includes the purchase of 18 block-modular boiler houses with a total capacity of over 70 megawatts. This will allow for backup heating in case of damage to the thermal power plant.

As of 4 September, it became known that «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» will receive 15 cogeneration units with a total capacity of 27.5 MW as part of a World Bank project. In total, the World Bank will provide $116 million to restore heating systems and support the energy resilience of seven cities whose critical infrastructure has been damaged by Russian attacks.

As you know, on the night of 16 February this year, Russian troops attacked Mykolaiv with drones, damaging a critical infrastructure facility.

It was also reported that a modern cogeneration complex based on gas piston units with a capacity of up to 80 MW is planned to be built at Mykolaiv CHP. The new equipment is expected to reduce heat costs.
