Mykolaiv city authorities are currently working on three different projects for the construction of social housing in the city.

This was announced during a briefing on 6 November by Ihor Nabatov, deputy director of the Mykolaiv Housing and Communal Services Department, according to NikVesti.

According to him, in addition to the joint project with the Danish foundation GAU Fonden, negotiations are currently underway with two other organisations — one commercial and one socially oriented.

«In addition to the project with the Danish foundation GAU Fonden, there are two more. One of them is more commercial — its goal is to build housing and rent it out for commercial purposes. The other is social, and it is ready to transfer some of the apartments to the city so that Mykolaiv can independently settle people in need of housing», explained Ihor Nabatov.

The official clarified that GAU Fonden is the most advanced of the three initiatives, with specific agreements and steps already in place.

«I speak about GAU Fonden the most because there are some specific agreements and concrete steps taken. For other projects, we are in progress», he said.

According to Nabatov, the possibility of building a kindergarten is also being considered as part of the cooperation with GAU Fonden, but the final decision has not yet been made.

«Maybe the kindergarten will be cancelled, maybe not. We expect the final decision as part of the project agreement. Now the situation, unfortunately, has changed for the worse, but this is not the final decision», added Ihor Nabatov.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv is preparing to sign an agreement with the Danish GAU Fonden Foundation for the construction of social housing in the Soliany neighbourhood.

What do you know about GAU Fonden?

Previously, the Danish foundation GAU Fonden implemented projects in Mykolaiv region not for the construction of high-rise buildings, but modular houses for internally displaced persons. In particular, four such houses have already been installed in Domanivka.

According to Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, a total of 25 such houses are planned to be built in the region by the end of 2026. The next stage will be the creation of a town of 50 modular houses in Pervomaisk.

In addition, the idea of using such structures to equip administrative service centres and outpatient clinics is being considered.

As a reminder, Denmark will allocate around 224 million euros to rebuild Mykolaiv region as part of a new support programme for Ukraine. The main focus will be on rebuilding the region's infrastructure and strengthening the resilience of Mykolaiv.

Over the previous three years, Denmark has already provided around 213 million euros in aid to the city and region. The main focus was on the most urgent needs — the restoration of critical infrastructure.
