In the budget for 2026, the government has provided about 16 billion hryvnias to stabilise the financial condition of Ukrzaliznytsia.
This was reported by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, according to «Ukrinform».
According to her, the state continues to support the railway in a difficult period, because taxpayers' money should work for the benefit of citizens.

«We are creating an opportunity to travel under the programme «UZ-3000» and fill the seats that usually remain vacant. At the same time, it should be understood that 16 billion hryvnias of support is not funds specifically for the implementation of the 3000 kilometres programme», said Yuliia Svyrydenko.
She added that this year Ukrzaliznytsia has already received 13 billion hryvnias from the state budget reserve fund, in particular to pay salaries to employees.
The government is also working on systemic solutions to reduce the unprofitability of passenger transportation. In particular, it is planning to gradually introduce a mechanism for imposing obligations on «Ukrzaliznytsia» to provide public service obligations (PSO).
In addition, the company has committed to reduce its own costs by at least 10 billion hryvnias.
As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new programme under which Ukrainians will be able to travel for free on the trains of Ukrzaliznytsia within three thousand kilometres across the country.
It is worth noting that the state budget for 2026 allocates 14.4 billion hryvnias for the implementation of the «winter support programme». More than 15 million citizens are expected to benefit from it.
