Only a daytime train remains on the Mykolaiv–Kyiv route: passengers are calling for the night service to be reinstated
The Mykolaiv–Kyiv train will run daily this summer. However, passengers have noted that the night service, which previously alternated with the daytime service, has been removed from the timetable.
As a result, passengers are complaining about the inconvenience and asking Ukrzaliznytsia to bring back the night train. They are posting their complaints on the social network Threads, reports NikVesti.
As the company explained, passenger numbers change with the start of summer, so some carriages are being reallocated to the most popular routes. This has allowed for an increase in the number of services on certain routes, particularly between Mykolaiv and Kyiv.
From now on, the Mykolaiv–Kyiv train will run daily. Previously, it ran every other day, alternating with the night service. Now, only the daytime train remains in the timetable, departing from Mykolaiv in the morning and arriving in the capital in the evening.
These changes have caused dissatisfaction among some passengers. On the social media platform Threads, users are flooding Ukrzaliznytsia with requests to reinstate the night service.
«Please explain why the night train from Mykolaiv to Kyiv has been cancelled? For many, it was the most convenient option. The heatwave is now setting in, and travelling during the day in carriages with temperatures of 30 degrees and above is simply very difficult and uncomfortable,» wrote one user.
Another passenger noted that the daytime service makes onward connections more difficult.
«I also need to go to Kyiv, and it’s so inconvenient — spending a whole day travelling and missing every onward connection,» she wrote.
Comments also reported that tickets for the train from Mykolaiv to Kyiv had temporarily disappeared from sale as of 30 May. In response, Ukrzaliznytsia’s customer service explained this was due to a timetable adjustment.
Passengers are complaining about the inconvenience and asking Ukrzaliznytsia to reinstate the Mykolaiv–Kyiv night trainHowever, the company has not yet clarified whether the cancellation of the night service is specifically linked to these changes, nor whether they plan to reinstate it.
Overall, for the summer season, Ukrzaliznytsia has also increased the frequency of a number of other trains. In particular, the «Uzhhorod–Dnipro», «Lviv–Zaporizhzhia», «Lviv–Kryvyi Rih/Zaporizhzhia», «Kovel–Odesa», «Kovel–Dnipro» and «Kharkiv–Odesa» trains will run daily.
In addition, the railway company is resuming the Sumy–Rakhiv service and introducing an extra Kyiv–Chernivtsi service.
It should be noted that demand for rail transport in Ukraine continues to grow, whilst the number of available trains is decreasing due to the war and the technical condition of the carriages.
