In Mykolaiv, tap water still does not meet drinking water standards in terms of turbidity and alkalinity, but there is no more salt water in the networks.
This was announced by Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych during a meeting of the executive committee, according to NikVesti.
According to him, since the beginning of October 2025, the city has been receiving fresh water, and the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal» has already replaced quartz sand filters. Additional treatment facilities are currently being completed to increase the efficiency of treatment — the previous ones were set up to receive water from the Dnipro.

«The Reconstruction Agency is completing the treatment facilities with the money saved on pipelines. To make them more efficient, since they were set up for Dnipro water. The Dnipro is a bigger river, and the water there was cleaner. Therefore, we are currently completing the construction of additional treatment facilities. In addition, we have changed our project for the reconstruction of additional treatment facilities and the installation of osmotic plants with the European Bank. This project is ongoing, and we want to ensure that the cleanest water in Ukraine is supplied to the pipes in Mykolaiv. These are just plans», said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
He added that the official declaration of the water's suitability for drinking will be made only after stable results are shown by laboratory tests in different districts of the city — in Namyv, Korabelnyi and the main water mains.
«As for today's water indicators, they slightly exceed the drinking water levels in terms of turbidity and alkalinity. The indicators are slowly returning to normal. This is due to the fact that the pipes need to be cleaned — they are still being cleaned. And at the water intake point, we need to make the water less turbid. But with the microfilter station to be completed by the end of the year, we will be able to bring these indicators back to normal. We measure the indicators at the water intake every day and several times during the day at the water utility. The water quality will improve until the new year. And as soon as the readings at Namyv, in Korabelnyi district, in the main water supply systems become drinking water, we will definitely inform», the mayor added.
Earlier it was reported that a gradual improvement in water quality was recorded in Mykolaiv after the launch of the new water supply system. At the same time, part of the water from the estuary is still circulating in the city's networks, which needs to be completely replaced.
As a reminder, on 7 October, Mykolaiv was connected to a new water supply system that supplies the city with water. According to Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych, the water supply system is already operating in the system of Mykolaivvodokanal, and the filtration system at the treatment plant has been updated — 4 out of 8 filters have been replaced so far, and 4 more are planned to be replaced in the near future.
Vitalii Kim also said that Mykolaiv residents can expect clean water to be available in their taps by the end of 2025 or early next year.
The mayor also stressed that after the launch of the new water supply system, the city continues to flush the networks, so you can see open fire hydrants on the streets — this is planned work, not an accident.
By the end of the year, Mykolaiv plans to build additional water treatment facilities that will significantly improve water quality. Their funding is provided from the state budget.
