Kim said that communities in Mykolaiv region want to repair roads where school buses travel. Illustrative photo: SADThe Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration is studying options for repairing the destroyed roads used to transport children to schools on a daily basis.
Vitalii Kim, head of the regional military administration, said this during a briefing after a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine, according to NikVesti.
According to Vitalii Kim, one of the main problems in most communities of the region is the condition of roads, which is why students of schools destroyed by shelling cannot get to educational institutions quickly and safely.
«Along school routes, this is a problem in all communities. When I visited the districts, most communities raised this issue. The state programme «School Buses» with co-financing subvention is not working well because there are no roads, and some routes take up to an hour and a half for a child to get there. We have collected these roads across the region, and the time ranges from 30 minutes to an hour and a half for a section that should be covered in 10-15 minutes. And people on the ground say it's bad, children can't go to school for an hour and a half, they vomit there,» says Vitalii Kim.

«We focused on this topic. The task of the Congress is to raise painful issues from the communities to the state level in order to solve them. This is one of the most important issues. We discussed the possibility of introducing an experiment to finance and repair all these roads. This is necessary for the reform to have a real impact on citizens», added Vitalii Kim.
As a reminder, the Mykolaiv region Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service is looking for a contractor to repair and maintain public roads of national importance. The total expected cost is 1.6 billion hryvnias.
In 2025, Mykolaiv region will receive 19.7 million hryvnias in subventions from the state budget for the purchase of school buses.
In the spring, the first six school buses were received by the communities of Mykolaiv region as part of a public investment project.
