This year's celebration of Mykolaiv City Day will again be held without large-scale events.
This was announced by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych.
According to the mayor, these restrictions are due to the fact that Mykolaiv is a frontline city.
«We remain a frontline city. The enemy is next door — Russian manure, which is insidious and can attack at any time,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
That is why this year the celebration of Mykolaiv City Day is planned to be restricted again: the festivities will be held without mass events and loud concerts.» Instead, small chamber events «will take place throughout the day in different districts.
The mayor of Mykolaiv stressed that after the victory, Mykolaiv residents will definitely be able to celebrate the City Day in a bright and large-scale manner, but the main focus remains on the safety of the citizens.
Earlier, Yurii Liubarov, Head of the Department for Culture and Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Mykolaiv City Council, explained the 4-year absence of major celebrations in the city by saying that «today's main events are on the frontline». According to him, the format of this year's celebrations will be similar to last year's and will remain so as long as the war continues. Last year, Mykolaiv celebrated its 235th anniversary.
At the same time, it should be noted that for all these 4 years, the city council's Department of Culture has continued to work without celebrations, spending at least 12 million hryvnias on officials' salaries from 2022 to 2025.
We would also like to remind you that on 23 August, Kharkiv celebrated its 371st anniversary. The city switched on festive illumination in the form of a starry sky. Hundreds of people gathered for the celebration. The citizens sang the Ukrainian anthem and patriotic songs. Kharkiv was also decorated with new installations.
