This year, out of 397 educational institutions in Mykolaiv Oblast, 179 will operate full-time, 165 will operate in a mixed format, and only 65 will remain in distance learning.

This was announced by Alla Velikhovska, director of the Department of Education and Science of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.

According to her, all schools have equipped shelters that have been inspected and approved by the State Emergency Service.

«Thus, 87% of all schools in Mykolaiv Oblast plan to operate in a full-time or mixed format. This means that these institutions have shelters that are ready to receive students and teachers. The number of children and staff who will be in schools will correspond to the capacity of the shelters. All of them are registered with the State Emergency Service, have been examined and have positive certificates,» said Alla Velikhovska.

Special attention was paid to educational institutions in the de-occupied territories, where 35 schools were completely destroyed by the war, and another 85 schools were severely damaged but have already been restored. Where buildings cannot be restored, the educational process will take place in modular schools.

«Modular schools with shelters have been set up in the settlements where schools have been destroyed thanks to the support of the Norwegian Council. This is a temporary solution so that children do not lose the opportunity to study until new premises are built,» she added.

Earlier it was reported that 59 schools in Mykolaiv region may be closed due to insufficient number of students for full-time education. The regional authorities are trying to secure a delay or exemptions for frontline schools.
