On 2 September, during the celebration of the City Day in Odesa, the anthem of Mykolaiv was performed in gratitude for the defence of the South. In addition, a column in honour of Mykolaiv was inaugurated in the «Alley of Unbreakable Cities».

This was reported by NikVesti with a link to a video from social media.

«It was the heroic defence of Mykolaiv that stopped the enemy attack on Odesa. That is why today Odesa residents say: «Odesa is mum, and Mykolaiv is a real dad», the host noted.

During the event, the flag of Mykolaiv was solemnly raised.

Also in Odesa, the installation «Alley of Unbreakable Cities» was replenished with a column in honour of Mykolaiv.

As reported earlier, an exhibition honouring the victims of the war and Ukrainian cities that survived was opened on Exchange Square (formerly Dumska) in Odesa. At the same time, the list did not include Mykolaiv and Voznesensk, cities that played a key defensive role in southern Ukraine.

After a wave of criticism, Odesa City Hall promised to fund the creation of a stele in honour of Mykolaiv.
