During the full-scale war, the number of students in schools, lyceums and gymnasiums in Mykolaiv decreased by 11,500.
This was stated by Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv Anatolii Petrov on the MART TV channel.
«Unfortunately, the dynamics are negative. If we compare the last four years with the pre-war period, we had 46,300 students before the war, and as of today, we have 34,700. This means that we lost 11,500 students during the war. This is a large number, because if we translate this number into class size — 30 students — we can say that it is minus 15 schools», he said.
According to him, the number of pupils entering the first grade this year has halved compared to the pre-war period.
«We are enrolling 2400 pupils in the first grade. In previous years, it was 3800, 4000, 4200 pupils. That is, almost half as many as in 2022», said Anatolii Petrov.
As a reminder, 52 schools in Mykolaiv will start operating in full-time or mixed formats from 1 September. This is 12 more schools than the previous year. As of today, 88 shelters have been set up in schools for full-time work, said First Deputy Mayor Anatolii Petrov.
