Military personnel released from captivity will receive backpacks with essentials from Mykolaiv.

The relevant changes were agreed at a meeting of the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council on 25 June, NikVesti reports.

A clause was added to the city's programme of support for defenders to provide soldiers returning from captivity with basic necessities for the first time.

«The changes include the addition of measures aimed at supporting soldiers released from captivity, in particular by providing basic necessities. We are talking about backpacks that we hand over from the community when the soldiers meet after captivity to meet their basic needs in the first days,» said Iryna Kocheva, head of the Department for War Veterans.

The total budget for such backpacks is 900 thousand hryvnias: 300,000 in 2025 and 600,000 in 2026. 600 people are to receive support.

As a reminder, on 19 June, Mykolaiv marines returned to Ukraine as part of another prisoner of war exchange.
