On Saturday, 14 June, local residents in Odesa complained about a sharp drop in pressure in the water supply network. The local water utility says the reason is massive and simultaneous water intake.
According to Infoksvodokanal, emergency repairs have been completed. Pumping stations are working in an enhanced mode, but do not have time to maintain the required pressure. Odesa residents were assured that there are no water supply outages and no plans to do so.
«We emphasise that all pumping stations are working in emergency mode, but the pressure in the network has dropped to critically low levels. Believing the rumours on social media, Odesa residents panicked and turned on all the taps simultaneously to stock up on water. Our contact centre is already «crashed», Infoksvodokanal said in a statement.
The company calls on residents to consume water rationally.
As a reminder, as of the evening of 13 June, the work to eliminate a large-scale accident at the main water supply system in Odesa had been going on for two days. To get to the damaged area, emergency workers had to build access roads and prepare the site for heavy equipment for almost a day.
