Mykolaiv region is one of the three regions of Ukraine with the highest number of victims of mine and other explosive ordnance accidents. As of today, 102 cases have been officially registered.

This is described in the material NikVesti «Danger Underground: Why Mykolaiv Region Needs More Knowledge about Mines».

However, the actual number of incidents is likely to be higher due to incomplete registration of events. These statistics demonstrate the high level of mine risk in the region and the urgency of strengthening public awareness.

According to a national survey conducted by UNDP in partnership with BBC Media Action and Humanity and Inclusion, only 42% of Ukrainians believe they have enough information about the mine threat. This points to the need for new approaches to informing citizens.

Since the beginning of 2025, nine incidents involving careless handling of explosive ordnance have occurred in Mykolaiv region.
