Denmark is considering additional funding for the purchase of nine more autonomous trolleybuses for Mykolaiv.

This was announced by Yurii Smetana, director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivelectrotrans», during a briefing on 21 February, NikVesti reports.

According to him, Denmark has already provided a grant of 3.9 million euros for the purchase of nine PTS trolleybuses, six of which have already arrived in the city and are preparing to go on the routes. Three more are expected within one to two weeks.

«There is also a preliminary agreement with the mayor that Denmark will allocate additional funds for the purchase of 9 trolleybuses, so we will fully close the contract that was announced and conducted for the purchase of 40 trolleybuses. The Danish government has purchased 18 of them,» said Yurii Smetana.

As a reminder, the first trolleybuses with an autonomous range of up to 20 kilometres arrived in Mykolaiv in April 2024 as part of a project with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The mayor announced plans to purchase this new transport in December 2023.

As part of this project, the city has already received 37 conventional trolleybuses through an agreement with the EBRD. However, the agreement was temporarily suspended due to Russian aggression.

Mykolaiv is to receive 40 new trolleybuses by May 2025 as part of the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Danish government.

A €3.9 million grant agreement was also signed with Denmark, and another 9 trolleybuses were purchased with these funds.
