The Mykolaiv Regional Museum of Local Lore received a gift from a resident of the city. The woman donated a rare chimney to the museum's collection.

It is noted that the donated decorative chimney probably dates back to the late XIX - early XX century. It was handed over to the museum by a resident of the city Olha Savchenko.

The recipient of donations is the NGO “Mykolaiv Media Hub” (EDRPOU 45160758). The chimney was brought by Olga's husband from the village of Ivanovo, Kirovohrad region. It had been decorating the family house for a long time.

«When the relatives died, Valerii Ivanovych brought it to Mykolaiv as a precious family heirloom with the intention of one day installing it on the roof of his own house. But soon he passed away too. Thanks to the care of Olga Savchenko, this unique item was brought to the museum», the museum said.

The museum workers also assume that the chimney was made in the village of Tsvitne, a well-known pottery centre of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It produced high-quality, thin-walled pottery that was sold in southern Ukraine. In addition, chimneys and other parts of chimneys were made here.

«The stove and everything related to it was deeply revered and considered a symbol of the home. Earlier, when heating was mainly stove-based, smoke rose into the sky through the chimneys, connecting the house with the universe», they added.

After the restoration, the chimney will be on display in the museum.
