It is noted that the pilot project has been operational since August 12. Specialists take water samples for COVID-19 and flu viruses.
«This measure is aimed at early detection of the circulation of viruses in the region and prevention of further spread of infection among the population,» the message reads.
Wastewater sampling takes place at the Mykolaiv city sewage treatment plants.
«It is important to note that sewage is a potential source of information about the spread of the virus, because it contains the waste of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 (abbreviated official name of COVID-19, — note),» the regional control and prevention center added diseases
The results of the research will be used to plan further measures to combat the pandemic.
