Mykolaiv surgeons operated on a patient from Kherson — they removed a fragment of ammunition from her rib and lung

Doctors of Mykolaiv oncology dispensary operated on a resident of Kherson, who was injured as a result of military operations. The woman was admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of gunshot fragment penetrating wound of the chest.

This was reported in the press service of the medical institution.

The doctors noted that during the war, doctors of highly specialized institutions had to change their approach from planned surgical care to surgical treatment of the injured, in particular with mine-explosive injuries, gunshot and shrapnel injuries.

The operation was performed by thoracic surgeons Vadym Zovtun and Maksym Kurchuk, who removed a fragment from the lower lobe of the right lung and from the 4th rib of the victim.

«CT signs of a shrapnel blind penetrating wound of the chest on the right with the presence of extraneous stones (debris) in the parenchyma of the right lung of the indicated localization. Right-sided hemopneumothorax. Contusion of the parenchyma of the right lung. Fracture of the 3rd and 4th ribs on the right, traumatic damage to the soft tissues of the chest on the right,» the oncology clinic explained.

Currently, the patient has been transferred to the inpatient surgical department for further rehabilitation.

It will be recalled that doctors saved the life of a 4-year-old child from Kherson by removing a fragment of a Russian mine from her heart.
