Mykolaiv, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions are planning to develop a strategy for adapting to high temperatures in order to counter the effects of the heat.

This was announced by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman Strelets on the air of the telethon.

The politician noted that experts have already developed three different scenarios under which adaptive measures will be implemented. Which ones are still unknown.

«We have international and European obligations in the context of European integration, we accept documents on climate policy, but today we are working with three oblasts: Mykolaiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv, and together with them we are developing a kind of climate change adaptation strategy for these pilot oblasts. We already have three scenarios that will happen, and we are developing measures that need to be taken in order to continue not only to develop, but also, accordingly, to grow in such climatic conditions,» said Roman Strelets.

At the same time, he says that it is financially difficult to independently implement such a project. Therefore, Ukraine will develop in this direction exclusively in joint work with other countries

« A lot of money is needed to implement such measures. But we really hope that international partners will be with us, because one country will not pull such changes, and here it is very important to have a common track with other countries,» said the minister.

Abnormal heat in Mykolaiv

Abnormally high temperature indicators were observed in most regions of Ukraine since the beginning of April.

Then, according to the data of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the air in the Mykolaiv Oblast warmed up to 27 degrees.

Although meteorologists of the Mykolaiv Hydrometeorological Center predicted in the spring that the summer of 2024 would be traditional in the region, and no deviations from the limits of normal indicators are expected, already in June the heat began to break all temperature records.

On June 3, the temperature in Mykolaiv approached the absolute maximum for the last 30 years, reaching 33 degrees Celsius. Mykolaiv set a new record on July 10 — the thermometer showed +40.5°С, on July 11 the temperature remained at the level of 40.2°С.

The other day, Mykolaiv weather forecasters warned that the abnormal heat in the city and region will last for another two weeks.
