MDI: negotiations on ending the war are possible in the second half of 2025

Ukraine has no chance of winning a war against Russia by pushing it back to internationally recognized borders. The deputy head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Vadym Skibitskyi, believes that such wars «end only with treaties.»

He will talk about this in an interview with The Economist.

Vadym Skibitskyi noted that he does not see the possibility for Ukraine to win the war only on the battlefield.

«Currently, both sides are fighting for the 'most advantageous position' before potential negotiations. But meaningful negotiations can begin no earlier than in the second half of 2025, he believes,» the publication reports the words of Vadym Skibitskyi.

He also noted that by the time of negotiations, Russia will experience «headwinds» in the form of a lack of materials and engineers for military production. At the same time, both Russians and Ukrainians can remain without weapons.

«In the end, both sides may be left without weapons. But if nothing changes in other aspects, Ukraine will be the first to experience this problem,» says the deputy head of the State Administration of Ukraine.

Also, he does not consider Article 5 of the NATO Charter on collective defense to be a sufficient means of deterrence for Russia in the event that Europe does not find an opportunity to increase military production and aid to Ukraine.

«The Russian Federation will seize the Baltic countries in a week. NATO's response time is ten days,» he added.

We will remind that in January 2024, the Head of the President's Office, Andrii Yermak, stated that Ukraine would be ready to consider the invitation of Russian representatives to a meeting on the peace formula already during the second Global Peace Summit.

Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a «peace summit» on the Ukrainian issue will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16, and heads of state and government from all parts of the world will be invited to it.
