US President Donald Trump has said that his administration has no plans to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range missiles.
He said this during a conversation with journalists broadcast by the White House.
When asked about the possibility of providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, Donald Trump replied: «No, at least for now». At the same time, he did not rule out that he could «change his mind» in the future.
During the conversation, the president was also asked what could be «the last straw» for Russian President Vladimir Putin in the war against Ukraine.
«There will be no last straw. Sometimes the parties must be allowed to fight. And they are fighting. For Putin, this is a difficult war. He has lost many soldiers, perhaps a million. But for Ukraine, the fighting is also difficult,» Donald Trump said.
It should be noted that the Pentagon has authorised the transfer of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. It concluded that the transfer of missiles to Ukraine would not harm the US arsenals. However, US President Donald Trump, under the influence of Russia, decided not to approve this decision for the time being.
Nevertheless, the TV channel's sources claim that Washington has not completely abandoned the idea of supplying missiles. The administration has prepared a plan to quickly transfer Tomahawks to Ukraine if Trump changes his mind.
At the same time, the US military is still working out technical and training issues, including how Ukraine will be able to launch these missiles. Tomahawks are typically launched from ships or submarines, but given the state of the Ukrainian navy, they are likely to be deployed on land-based launchers that the US could provide.
