Mykolaiv City Council member Prudnyk criticises the work of the Mykolaiv Housing and Communal Services Commission

Yevhen Prudnyk, a deputy of the Mykolaiv City Council elected from the party «OPFL», criticised the work of the Standing Committee on Housing and Communal Services. According to him, instead of considering important issues for the city, the members of the commission focus on secondary issues, in particular, on the write-off of municipal property.

He said this during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council on 30 October, according to NikVesti.

The deputy suggested that deputies should also join the discussion of issues at the stage of work of specialised commissions, and not only during sessions of the city council.

«I would like to say a few words about the work of the Housing and Communal Services Commission. I have the impression that it has turned into a commission to write off the property of all utility companies and administrations. Important issues are raised at the session regarding the activities of the city and its utilities, and we at the commission are considering, excuse me, some nonsense. I propose, either in the form of a protocol instruction or otherwise, to return to the practice of having all key issues related to the city's structure and the activities of municipal enterprises go through the specialised commissions. Deputies should have the opportunity to express their opinions and suggestions at the discussion stage, not during the session,» said Yevhen Prudnyk.

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, responded to the deputy's remarks and said that he would consider streamlining the work of the commissions to avoid unimportant issues during their meetings.

«I will think about how to issue this order or prepare instructions so that the commissions do not consider nonsense. It will be difficult, though, because the definition of «nonsense» is quite vague. It's hard to say whether writing off fixed assets is nonsense or not. But I understand what you are saying. You are, as they say, like a road builder: there is nonsense and everything is fine, and then there are other, normal issues. We will try to ensure that all issues related to municipal property, facilities or enterprises are referred to the relevant commissions as much as possible,» the mayor said.

During his speech, Dmytro Ivanov, a member of the «Propozytsiia» party, responded to criticism of the Housing and Communal Services Commission. He emphasised that often the comments come from colleagues who do not attend the meetings themselves.

«When deputies tell you again that we are engaged in nonsense at the commission, ask them when they last attended a meeting of the commission,» the politician said.

It should be noted that on 30 October, for the first time since 24 February 2022, Mykolaiv City Council partially met for an offline session. Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych offered the deputies a hybrid format of work, like their colleagues in Dnipro.

Before the session, it became known that Vladyslav Chaika, a deputy of the Mykolaiv City Council elected from the banned party «Opposition Platform «For Life», said that he had not been warned about the offline session of the City Council.

As a reminder, the sessions of Mykolaiv city and regional councils are currently held online. Over the past four years, members of the regional council have met offline only a few times, including in November 2024, May 2025, and October 2025.

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, believes that holding sessions online has not affected the work of the city council. Recently, it became known that the city council has not shown the faces of its deputies for two months as a confirmation of their personal presence at the meetings of the sessions, which have been held via video conferencing for four years.

Following this, Ukrainian blogger and author of the telegram channel «Lachen writes» Ihor Lachenkov called on Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych to hold a city council meeting offline.
