Russian financier and negotiator Kirill Dmitriev has said that the United States, Ukraine and Moscow are already close to reaching a diplomatic settlement of the war.
He said this in an interview with CNN upon his arrival in Washington. A meeting between Dmitriev and US officials is due to take place in the city soon.
According to Russia's economic envoy, the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin will take place, but probably later.

Earlier, Donald Trump cancelled talks with the Russian side in Budapest. According to preliminary information, they were postponed due to the lack of progress in peace efforts and Russia's unwillingness to take steps towards them.
«I believe that Russia, the United States and Ukraine are actually quite close to a diplomatic solution,» said Kirill Dmitriev.
During the interview, the journalist recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had agreed to freeze the frontline for a further ceasefire and asked why Putin had not taken similar steps. Dmitriev replied that Moscow is seeking not just a ceasefire, but «a final solution» to end the war.
«It's a big step on the part of President Zelenskyy to acknowledge that we're talking about the front lines. You know, his previous position was that Russia has to withdraw completely — so actually, I think we are quite close to a diplomatic solution that can be worked out,» the Kremlin spokesman said.
It is expected that Kirill Dmitriev will meet with representatives of the Donald Trump administration to discuss future relations between the US and Russia. In particular, according to Axios, he plans to hold talks with Trump's special envoy Steve Vitkoff.
Earlier, the US imposed sanctions against «Rosneft» and «Lukoil» for the Kremlin's refusal to hold peace talks.
