French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed that only President Volodymyr Zelenskyy can conduct any negotiations concerning the territory of Ukraine.
According to The Guardian, while talking to journalists, Emmanuel Macron was asked to comment on the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
«No one else can do this. Therefore, it is Ukraine that must decide for itself and its territory», the French leader said.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported, citing two officials, that during a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that US President Donald Trump demand that Ukraine give up full control of Donetsk region to Russia as a condition for ending the war.
At the same time, Donald Trump said that he supported the idea of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine on the current front lines, but denied that he had called on Volodymyr Zelenskyy to cede the entire territory of Donetsk region. In his opinion, Donetsk region should remain «divided as it is», because «78% of the territory is already controlled by Russia».
In addition, Kremlin spokesman Dmitrii Peskov said that Moscow's position on US President Donald Trump's proposal to freeze the front line for the start of negotiations has not changed.
