Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said that Rome is ready to participate in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, but without sending soldiers to its territory.

She said this during the summit of the «Coalition of the Resolute», the government's press service reported.

Meloni recalled the Italian offer of guarantees, which follows Article 5 of the NATO Washington Treaty. She stressed that Italy is ready to join monitoring missions and exercises outside Ukraine, as well as to support a possible ceasefire.

After the summit, the Prime Minister took part in a telephone conversation between European leaders and US President Donald Trump. The participants reaffirmed their unity in seeking a «just and lasting peace» for Ukraine, which should include

  • continued support for Ukraine;
  • pressure on Russia, including sanctions;
  • reliable and credible security guarantees.

Earlier it was reported that teams from Ukraine, the United States and European partners are working on an architecture of security guarantees for Ukraine, and all relevant developments will be ready in the coming days.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined three main blocks of security guarantees for Ukraine: the army, NATO support, and sanctions against Russia.

In addition, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that security guarantees should be provided to both Ukraine and Russia during the settlement of the war.
