The US Department of State has approved the sale of 3,350 ERAM long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine for a total of $825 million.
This was reported by the Office of Military Cooperation of the US Department of Defence.
Ukraine will receive the missiles along with GPS and INS navigation systems with signal spoofing protection, containers, pylons, components and maintenance equipment. The package also includes personnel training, technical and logistical support.
The purchase will be funded by Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and the United States. The Pentagon stressed that the supply will increase Ukraine's self-defence and security capabilities in the region. The contractors for the programme will be Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire.
ERAM (Extended Range Attack Munition) is a long-range «air-to-surface cruise missile» designed to engage land and sea targets.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to provide Ukraine with additional weapons, including Patriot missile defence systems. However, according to Reuters, even Washington's closest allies were not informed of these plans in advance.
It should be noted that the US Patriot air defence system , which Germany is financing for Ukraine, is still in the production phase and will be ready in about 6-8 months. Germany is also considering giving Ukraine another Patriot system from its arsenal and then replacing it with a new one. But such a decision will take years due to the complexity of production.
