President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he plans to discuss the issue of territories personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He said this during a briefing in Washington.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during a meeting at the White House, he argued with the American side over the percentage of occupied territories shown on the map. He clarified that he had explained when exactly Russia had seized certain regions of Ukraine, including parts of the east and Crimea, in 2014.

At the same time, he stressed that he had a «good warm substantive conversation» with US President Donald Trump and there were no disputes between them.

When asked whether the United States insists on the exchange of territories and whether Ukraine has a formula for this, Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not answer directly. He only stated: «We will leave the issue of territories between me and Putin».

Zelenskyy's meeting with Trump at the White House

On 18 August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House for talks with US President Donald Trump. European leaders also arrived in Washington.

Following the talks, Trump and Zelensky called the bilateral meeting «very good». Afterwards, the US president had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said he had begun preparations for a face-to-face meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian leaders.

This happened a few days after the talks between Trump and Putin in Alaska. The US president rated that meeting at «10 out of 10» and said that he would refrain from additional sanctions or other «serious consequences» for Russia, which he had previously promised.
