The Kremlin is considering possible concessions to US President Donald Trump regarding his attempts to end a full-scale war in Ukraine.
Bloomberg has learned this from unnamed sources in Russia.
According to them, the Russian authorities see potential concessions to Trump on a peaceful settlement as an attempt to avert the threat of secondary US sanctions.
«One of these concessions could be a temporary suspension of air strikes, including drone and missile strikes, as a gesture of de-escalation — provided that Ukraine signs a corresponding agreement», Bloomberg quoted one of the sources as saying.
The agency's interlocutors also note that the upcoming visit of US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff to Moscow could be «the last chance» for an agreement between the Kremlin and Trump, despite the low chances of success.
At the same time, the sources emphasise that Vladimir Putin's strategic goals for the war against Ukraine remain unchanged, and there is no talk of a complete cessation of hostilities.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said that his special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is likely to visit Russia on 6 or 7 August. According to Trump, the meeting was initiated by the Russian side.
