On Wednesday, 25 June, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
The President of Ukraine wrote about it on social media.
In particular, the leaders discussed the purchase of American air defence systems to protect Ukrainian cities. Zelenskyy stressed that Kyiv is ready to buy this equipment and support American arms manufacturers.
«Ukraine is ready to buy this equipment and support American arms manufacturers. Europe can help. We also talked about possible co-production of drones. We can strengthen each other,» Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
In addition, Zelenskyy told Trump about the meetings of the technical team in Istanbul and the exchanges of prisoners and dead. In particular, the Ukrainian leader shared evidence that Russia had handed over the bodies of its own dead to Kyiv.
«Russia handed over the bodies of its own dead to us. Now Kyiv is conducting examinations to find their relatives,» the President of Ukraine added.
The parties also discussed the situation on the battlefield.
«Putin is definitely not winning. I presented to the President the facts of what is really happening on the ground. Thank you for the meeting and support. Thank you for the really good words about our people. We will continue to work,» Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump said that he did not discuss the ceasefire with Zelenskyy at the meeting, but «just wanted to know how he was doing».
«In fact, everything went very well. Sometimes it was not easy (with Zelenskyy, — note). He was as pleasant as possible... I think what I took away from the meeting was as pleasant as possible,» Donald Trump said.
He also announced that he was going to talk to Russian leader Vladimir Putin and «see if we can end» the war.
«I had a good meeting with Zelenskyy and many good meetings with many good people, many great leaders. But he is fighting a brave fight. It's a tough fight,» Donald Trump added.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his intention to meet with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit to be held on 24-25 June in The Hague.
