US President Donald Trump has said he was surprised that Russia fired missiles at Kyiv while peace talks were underway to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war.
He said this during his press conference.
«I saw things that surprised me a lot: missiles being fired at cities like Kyiv during negotiations that I thought were very close to being completed. We were going to solve the problem, and then suddenly they started firing rockets... I'm very disappointed in that sense», Donald Trump said.
In addition, Donald Trump said that the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin, are «very stubborn» and reiterated that this war would not have happened if he had been president.
«It's not my war, I just want to solve the problem for the people», the US president said.
After that, he claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin «was playing with fire» and also stressed that if it were not for him, «many bad things would have happened to Russia».
As a reminder, on the night of 25 May, Russia launched a massive combined missile strike against Ukraine. Ballistic missiles, cruise missiles of «calibre» from the sea and cruise missiles from Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers were fired at Kyiv and other cities. The missile strike was accompanied by a massive attack by the Shahed drones, which lasted until 7am. All missiles reached their targets or were shot down by 5am.
