During a recent conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump said that it is up to Ukraine and Russia to decide how to end the war.

The New York Times reports this with reference to its own sources.

According to the newspaper, Donald Trump now holds the position that the war is «not his problem», and has actually abandoned plans to impose sanctions on Russia if Moscow refuses to cease fire.

The NYT notes that this position indicates not only the lack of pressure from the US on the Kremlin, but also a possible split within NATO.

Earlier, Axios wrote that Trump had advised Zelenskyy to ask Putin to formulate «realistic» terms of a ceasefire. After these words, according to journalists, the conversation was followed by «surprised silence» from Zelenskyy and the European leaders who took part in the call.

Earlier, Donald Trump said that over the next two to four weeks it would become clear whether Ukraine was making enough efforts to end the war.
