US President Donald Trump has called on Russia and Ukraine to call for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire and threatened sanctions in case of violation of the agreement.
He wrote on Truth Social that the United States and its partners are ready to impose additional sanctions if the parties do not comply with the ceasefire.
Donald Trump stressed that thousands of soldiers are killed every week as a result of the war and that everyone should strive to end it.
«I want peace, and so does the United States. As president, I will remain committed to bringing peace between Russia and Ukraine, along with the Europeans. It will be a lasting peace, and if my services are needed, I am available at any time», he said.
Before that, Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian president said that Kyiv is ready to agree to a 30-day ceasefire «even from today» and is waiting for a similar decision from Moscow.
«Ukraine is ready for negotiations in any format. But for this, Russia must prove its seriousness — start with a complete and unconditional ceasefire», Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.
He called for «30 days of real silence» — without missile strikes, drones and assaults on the frontline, noting that this is not the first time Ukraine has proposed such a solution.
«These 30 days could be the beginning of years of peace. Russia must prove its readiness to end the war», he stressed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that Donald Trump had inquired about the situation on the battlefield and confirmed that «wants the war to end, is ready to help and supports the need for a ceasefire».
«A lasting and reliable ceasefire would be a real step towards peace. America can contribute to this, and the world needs it just as much as it did 80 years ago», Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
As a reminder, during their meeting in Washington, D.C., U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney discussed Russia's war against Ukraine.
Recently, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that the Russian side was making excessive demands when discussing the possible end of the war in Ukraine. According to him, Russia is not abandoning the idea of a peace agreement, but its position remains too tough.
