The Danish Armed Forces intend to send several teams of soldiers to Ukraine to participate in short-term training courses. The initiative provoked a negative reaction from Moscow.
This was stated by the Commander of the Danish Army, Major General Peter Boysen, in an interview with TV 2.
According to him, the aim of the initiative is to gain practical experience of modern warfare, in particular in the use of drones, electronic warfare and tactics of Ukrainian forces.
The training is planned to take place far from the war zone, probably near Lviv. The Danish military will be unarmed and will not be involved in combat operations.
«We are sending several teams there to see what experience the Ukrainians have first-hand. So come and get this experience,» said Peter Boysen.
He also added that he had personally visited Ukraine twice in recent months, and that training missions for the Danish military could start this summer and last from one to two weeks.
The initiative has already provoked a reaction from Moscow. Danish TV 2 quoted a letter from the Russian Embassy in Denmark, which called the decision «a provocation» and said that it «draws Denmark deeper into the conflict».
According to the embassy, the Russian Federation considers military facilities and personnel deployments anywhere in Ukraine «a legitimate target» for the Russian army.
Nevertheless, the Danish military command emphasises that this is a training mission only, with no participation of soldiers in combat.
Earlier it was reported that the Danish government is allocating a new package of military assistance to Ukraine worth 971 million hryvnias. The assistance will be provided over the period of 2025-2027.
