US President Donald Trump has announced that he has spoken to Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the phone to try to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.

He made the announcement in an interview with the New York Post on board a plane.

He did not give a direct answer to the question about the number of such conversations with Vladimir Putin.

«"I'd rather not say», Donald Trump said.

He also did not specify when they last spoke.

The US president claims that Vladimir Putin «cares about» killing on the battlefield: «He wants people to stop dying».

Donald Trump has reiterated that a full-scale war «would never have happened» if he were president in 2022.

«I have always had a good relationship with Putin», the politician added.

He assured that he already has a concrete plan to end the war.

In addition, Donald Trump stressed that he wants to conclude a $500 million deal with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on access to rare earth minerals and gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in any potential peace settlement.

As a reminder, President Zelenskyy has expressed his belief that US leader Donald Trump currently has no «official plan» to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.

At the same time, the United States is already negotiating a full-scale war with Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to sit down with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin for peace, despite his hostile attitude.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to «allocate people» to negotiate with Ukraine to end the war and called any such talks «illegitimate».

US President Donald Trump is ready to significantly increase sanctions against Russia, even doubling them, to force Moscow to end its war against Ukraine.
