The sewage charge in Mykolaiv will increase by 24 hryvnias from 1 October. It will amount to 41.25 hryvnias per cubic metre.

The decision was taken today, 23 September, by the Executive Committee of Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.

Olena Bolychevska, head of the Tariffs and Pricing Policy Division within the Department of Strategic Development and Investment at Mykolaiv City Council, stated that the tariff increase would help the water utility move out of the red.

«Such changes will help eliminate losses of almost 48 million, provided the decision to increase the tariff is approved. Currently, over the first eight months of this year, the company has incurred losses of almost 360 million whilst operating under the old tariffs,» noted Olena Bolychevska.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych asked when the sewage tariff in Mykolaiv had last been increased. According to Olena Bolychevska, this was in 2019.

«Since then, as you know, the dollar has doubled in value, inflation has risen, and the minimum wage has increased. We are deliberately not raising the water supply tariff. It remains at the 2019 level,» said the mayor.

The mayor also noted that the city allocates over 50 million a month from the budget in subsidies for the water utility.

«Nothing in this life comes for free. We are currently subsidising the water utility from the budget; instead of paying salaries, utility bills and carrying out routine repairs, we are currently channelling money to the water utility to bridge this financial gap, bearing in mind that the water utility pays market prices for the electricity it buys on the market, and salaries are at 2026 levels rather than 2019 levels. The figure for these subsidies amounts to 50 million hryvnias a month. We are simply drowning under the burden right now and must at least change the tariff for wastewater services,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

According to him, the tariff has been agreed with the national pricing regulator.

«So we can safely say that they are neither too high nor too low,» added the mayor.

As a reminder, the current wastewater tariff for households stands at 16.51 hryvnias including tax. «Mykolaivvodokanal» has proposed raising it to 41.256 hryvnias per cubic metre, including tax.

In January 2026, Oleksandr Sienkevych noted that the current water tariff for the general public does not cover the operating costs of the «Mykolaivvodokanal» municipal enterprise and prevents the organisation from functioning fully and developing.
