The City Council’s Department of Physical Culture and Sport is seeking donors to upgrade the facilities and equipment of Mykolaiv’s sports venues.

A project worth over 114 million hryvnias has been registered on the DREAM platform, NikVesti reports.

It involves the purchase of new equipment, facilities and transport for children’s and youth sports schools, the school of higher sporting excellence and the Central City Stadium.

Public offer.

This is not just about balls or kit. The list of requirements includes sailing and rowing boats, boat engines, kayaks, exercise machines, wrestling mats, basketball equipment, computer equipment, as well as transport for athletes and equipment. It is noted that around 5,000 athletes a year will be able to use the new equipment.

A separate portion of the procurement is planned to be allocated to upgrading the facilities at the Central City Stadium. There, they intend to purchase modern equipment for athletics training and competitions.

The planned purchases are scheduled to take place over several years — from 2026 to 2028.

It is worth recalling that the regional council criticised the condition of Mykolaiv’s Central City Stadium, which has still not been restored following Russian shelling almost four years ago.

As is known, the Central City Stadium sustained the most severe damage in the summer of 2022. At that time, a Russian missile struck the running track directly, and the blast wave damaged the football pitch, the stands and the administrative building.

Viacheslav Misarenko, director of the municipal institution «Central City Stadium», previously told NikVesti that Russian shells had struck the stadium grounds several times during the full-scale war. Staff repaired some of the damage themselves, but the running tracks need to be completely replaced.

According to him, the problem lies not only in the new surface. Restoration also requires changing the geometry of the tracks, the base beneath them and the configuration in accordance with the current requirements of the Athletics Federation. However, there are currently no funds available for this.

Despite the damage, track and field athletes, footballers and young cyclists continue to train at the stadium.
