Mykolaiv Oblast ranks sixth in Ukraine for tuberculosis incidence, although the figures are gradually falling each year.

This was reported by Yevheniia Banenkova, a TB specialist at the Mykolaiv Regional Tuberculosis and Pulmonology Medical Centre, on the Radio Day programme.

She noted that Odesa and Kirovohrad regions, in particular, have higher incidence rates.

«As far as the epidemic situation is concerned, we are seeing a decline in tuberculosis incidence every year, both in the Mykolaiv region and across Ukraine as a whole. At the same time, our region is still among the ten regions with the highest incidence rates and currently ranks sixth. Ahead of us are the Odesa, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr and Zakarpattia regions,» said Yevheniia Banenkova.

According to the doctor, the incidence rate has fallen by 6.1% compared to 2024.

«Our rate stands at 52.5 per 100,000 population. It has decreased by 6.1% compared to last year. In total, we have recorded 573 cases of tuberculosis, including repeat cases and relapses. By comparison, 610 cases were recorded in 2024. We can see that in absolute terms, the number of cases is decreasing. This is the result of measures being implemented in our region and across Ukraine as a whole, in particular thanks to the law on combating tuberculosis and the strategy for tackling diseases such as HIV infection, viral hepatitis and tuberculosis,» added Yevheniia Banenkova.

As a reminder, over the past week in the Mykolaiv region, 3,880 patients fell ill with influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, including two cases of COVID-19. Among those affected, 2,680 were children and 1,200 were adults. Children accounted for 69.1% of cases, with the majority being schoolchildren (78.7% or 2,109 people).

A total of 115 patients were admitted to hospital, which is slightly more than a week earlier. Children make up the majority of those hospitalised: 27% are under 4 years of age, and a further 36.5% are aged between 5 and 14. Adults aged 30 and over account for 28.7%. Despite the rise in cases, the prevalence of the disease in the region remains below the epidemic threshold by 28.4%. Meanwhile, levels exceeding the average epidemic threshold have been recorded in the Volyn and Zhytomyr regions.
