At Maternity Hospital №3 in Mykolaiv, pathologies were detected in 50% of patients during three months of mammography screening

In almost three months of operation of the mammography department at Maternity Hospital №3 in Mykolaiv, doctors have detected pathologies in more than half of the women examined.

This was reported by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych during his annual activity report, according to NikVesti.

According to the mayor, 483 women underwent examinations, and doctors found abnormalities in 279 of them.

«A mammography department has been put into operation at Maternity Hospital №3. It is important to note that since it began operating, although it was only recently put into operation, 483 women have been examined. Pathologies were detected in 279 of them, and eight patients have already undergone surgery. It is important to note that women usually come to this department when they are already experiencing health problems. That is, it is necessary to undergo preventive examinations, get checked and use the services of our hospitals in this area,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

It should be noted that screening is recommended for all women over 40 — once every two years or as directed by a doctor. Currently, the service is paid, but the institution is already preparing documents so that in 2026 it will become available under the medical guarantee programme.

On 22 October 2025, a Breast Disease Diagnostic Centre was opened in Maternity Hospital №3 in Mykolaiv. The facility was equipped with funds from the city budget, renovated and an Italian mammography machine was installed. The machine allows for quick, painless examinations with no contraindications.

This is the second location in the city where mammography examinations can be performed — the first machine is in operation at Hospital №5 in the Korabelnyi district.
