«A few years ago, we had a plan «Island», which is in place and allows critical infrastructure management facilities, all social facilities and management facilities to remain operational. Additional fuel depots, additional communications, a separate line for sustainable mobile communications. We are working on this. Last week, we finished training, i.e. we were practising what would happen in a critical situation,» said Vitalii Kim.

He added that there are also two thousand stoves of various sizes that can be used for heating if necessary.

«We are, in principle, ready for this situation, and this is not the first time we have been threatened. If the worst happens, we have two thousand stoves of various sizes in stock to heat the premises. We have 400 points of unbreakable security, all of which can be deployed in hours. I don't want to talk about such scenarios to avoid scaring people, but we are ready for them,» he added.

Earlier, Vitalii Kim, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, said that despite the fact that Mykolaiv region produces ten times more electricity than it consumes, residents of the region will still be left without electricity according to the blackout schedules, as well as throughout Ukraine.

«Energy Island»: what it means

In December 2024, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, announced plans to create an «Energy Island» in the city, which will ensure stable heat supply during large-scale power outages.

According to him, the so-called «Energy Island» in Mykolaiv will provide the city with electricity for at least a few hours during long power cuts.

In Pivdennoukrainsk, people are demanding to ease the schedules of power outages

As you know, local residents in Pivdennoukrainsk complained at the session about long power cuts, while the city has no alternative energy sources. In this regard, the mayor sent official letters to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Ukrenergo and Mykolaiv Regional State Administration asking them to grant Pivdennoukrainsk the status of a «high security facility» and to take into account the lack of gas supply.

During a press conference, the Pivdennoukrainsk City Council informed local residents that it had asked the government to revise the schedules of power outages, but received a response that granting special conditions to the city of would be considered discrimination against other consumers.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Energy promised to review the current conditions of the blackout schedules in Pivdennoukrainsk.

According to Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, the issue was raised during a meeting in Kharkiv dedicated to the life of the frontline regions. Among other topics, they discussed the situation with power outages in Pivdennoukrainsk.
