Over the past year, 18 solar power plants have been installed on the roofs of hospitals, clinics and apartment blocks in Mykolaiv.

This was announced live on air today, 1 December, by Viktor Sikalenko, head of the municipal institution «Mykolaiv Development Agency», NikVesti.

According to him, the solar panels were installed thanks to the cooperation of the Recovery and Development Office, the city council and international partners.

«Our specialists, together with other structural units of the city council and our partners, were installing cogeneration units to create energy from various types of solid fuels. This also includes the installation of solar panels on social and administrative buildings in Mykolaiv and on the territories owned by the Mykolaiv City Council. About 18 generation facilities were installed, with a capacity of 506 kW and an area of 290 square metres. As for cogeneration, we have installed 10 new units this year, which are working for the benefit of Mykolaiv,» said Viktor Sikalenko .

In a commentary to NikVesti, Daniel Bodou, an expert of the Office for Recovery and Development on «green» transition, noted that the installed stations will save about 4 million hryvnias annually from the city budget.

«The stations have been installed at various facilities: hospitals, clinics, water utility pumping stations, apartment buildings, and others. The total capacity of these stations is about 506 kW, and the projected annual electricity production is about 600 thousand kWh. This will save approximately 4 million hryvnias a year from the city budget and reduce the load on the city's power grid», said Daniel Bodou.

In particular, in July this year, the Office's press service reported that hybrid solar power plants had been launched in Mykolaiv at two medical facilities.

NEFCO will give Mykolaiv more than €14 million for heat and solar energy: what is known

In July, the Mykolaiv City Council signed a grant agreement with the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) worth more than €14 million.

This is a grant of more than €14 million for the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in the city.

The funds will be used in two key areas:

  • 7.2 million euros for the installation of individual heating points (IHPs) in residential buildings. This will help regulate the heat supply in each building, reduce energy consumption and improve the comfort of residents.

  • 7.2 million euros for the construction of three solar power plants with a capacity of 9.9 MW each. They will provide the city with clean energy and help reduce dependence on traditional sources.

The financing will be provided without the participation of the city budget or utility companies — the funds will be transferred directly to contractors.
