Due to the lack of parking spaces in the courtyards of high-rise buildings, the chief architect of Mykolaiv, Yevhen Poliakov, advised residents to use public transport.

He expressed this opinion during a live broadcast, according to NikVesti.

During the broadcast, the chief architect was asked how to organise parking in high-rise buildings where cars block entrances, playgrounds and green areas. Yevhen Poliakov replied that the solution to the problem lies in the development of public transport and the social responsibility of residents.

«In fact, in a private high-rise building, the residents themselves block these areas and everything else. First, it must be social responsibility. Measures must be taken to improve the public space. If you give every resident of a high-rise building a parking space, there is not enough territory around the building to make it happen. For this purpose, it is necessary to develop public transport, which Mykolaiv is doing [...] This solves a partial question of what to do with the parking spaces under your window,» he explained.

What about parking in Mykolaiv?

As you know, on 11 June 2025, eight paid car parking locations were launched in the centre of Mykolaiv.

Over the summer of 2025, the sites brought in 111.4 thousand hryvnias in revenue to the municipal enterprise «Timeset», which will be transferred to the city budget after mandatory payments are made.

At the same time, the number of free parking spaces in the centre of Mykolaiv has decreased. The municipal specialised installation and maintenance company has installed bollards (protective posts) on the sidewalks and so-called «pockets», so drivers can no longer leave their cars there.

Earlier, NikVesti wrote about how they will work and who will control payment.
