Zaporizhzhia NPP has restored backup power from the grid for the first time in six months after the repair of the second power line.
This was reported by the IAEA press service.
The 330 kV line «Ferrosplavna-1» was connected to the plant, which was an important step in preventing a nuclear disaster.
«The repairs took place through an active war zone, so we had to negotiate a temporary ceasefire for the safe work of technicians. The plant now has access to two power lines again,» IAEA Director General Grossi said.
The repair work began after the area about three kilometres from the station's perimeter was cleared of mines. The damaged cable between the towers was repaired, and the IAEA monitored the process. The line, which had been disconnected since 7 May, was reconnected the same evening.
The restoration of the backup power supply increases the safety of ZNPP and the stability of its operation.
As a reminder, a localised ceasefire was declared near the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP on 7 November to repair the 330-kilovolt backup power line that supplied the plant.
