Local truce established near ZNPP to repair backup power line — IAEA

A Russian soldier on the territory of the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, photo: AFPOn 7 November, a localised ceasefire was declared near the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to repair a 330-kilovolt backup power line that supplied the plant.
This was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In the morning, demining and preparatory work began near the damaged section of the line «Ferroalloy-1». Direct repairs are scheduled to begin on 8 November.
The IAEA noted that after the restoration of this line, the plant will have access to two sources of power supply — together with the 750-kilovolt line «Dniprovska», which was repaired last month.
The agency stressed that the restoration of «Ferroalloy-1» is critical to stabilising the nuclear safety situation. The work will be supervised by the IAEA team, which is permanently located at ZNPP.
As a reminder, external power supply has been restored to Zaporizhzhya NPP after repairs. This brought the plant out of full blackout mode, which it had been in for almost a month.
Prior to that, on 30 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an emergency had been going on at Zaporizhzhia NPP for seven days: due to Russian shelling, the plant had been disconnected from the power grid and was running on diesel generators.
