Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, said that the Russian army's strike on the port of Mykolaiv did not cause significant damage to local infrastructure because the missile hit the ground.
He said this on the air of Novosti.Live.
On the morning of 3 June, Russians attacked one of Mykolaiv's ports. For the first time, the attack was carried out by an aerial ballistic missile Kinzhal, which was fired from the territory of the Kursk region, as Vitalii Kim said.
«Kinzhal missile was indeed used for the first time. The strike was on the port infrastructure without significant damage. This is not a city, but a suburb. In my opinion, the enemy did not achieve its goal thanks to our defence forces. They attacked a facility in the port, and we don't know what they were looking for because they hit the ground,» he said.
At the same time, the head of the region says he does not understand why they would attack a port that has not been functioning for three years.
«There are no people or infrastructure there that would actively work and support the Defence Forces. This is the first attack during the full-scale invasion with an expensive missile,» added Vitalii Kim.
In his opinion, this may be one of the Russian army's responses to the recent operations conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine on the territory of the Russian Federation.
«When the Russians get a good slap in the face, like Operation «Pavutyna», they need to have successes, and they hit anywhere. The main thing is to report to the leadership that they have done something. Because there is no goal, no objective. Minus one Kinzhal for $9 million in the ground,» said the head of the RMA.
Earlier it was reported that a Shahed was shot down over Mykolaiv region at night.
On 1 June, Russian troops attacked the Kutsurub community in Mykolaiv region 13 times with FPV drones. The village of Dniprovske suffered the most — two local residents were injured as a result of the attacks.
