Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, from February 2022 to March this year, Russian forces have carried out at least 31 air strikes on hotels in various Ukrainian cities. Hotels in Mykolaiv are also marked on the map.
According to a joint study by Truth Hounds and «Reporters Without Borders» (RSF), 25 hotels were hit.
Most of the victims of these strikes were civilians, including journalists. In particular, one journalist was killed and 25 were injured.
The authors of the study believe that these attacks are not accidental, but are aimed at restricting the work of the press.
Overall, 27 out of 31 attacks took place in the regions of active hostilities. Almost all of the attacks (30 out of 31) were on hotels with no obvious military presence.
In more than 15 cases, the use of «Iskander» 9K720 missiles, a precision-guided weapon, was reported, indicating that the attacks were targeted at hotels. In addition, eight attacks on hotels in the temporarily occupied territories were recorded, where Russian troops were present in four cases.
It is noted that between August 2024 and March 2025, Russian troops damaged eight hotels in Kryvyi Rih.
Ukrainian and foreign journalists reported that Russian shelling had seriously interfered with the logistics of their business trips, increased stress and caused emotional trauma.
