US President Donald Trump. Photo: AP Photo/Evan VucciUS President Donald Trump believes that Russia wants the war in Ukraine to end. He came to this conclusion after the visit of his special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said this during a briefing.
«We had a productive conversation. As the President's envoy, Steve Witkoff, said last night, he believes that Russia wants to end this war, and the President believes that as well. Russia has an incentive to end this war. Maybe it could be an economic partnership with the US, but first we need to see a ceasefire. The President and Presidential Envoy Vitkoff have conveyed that message to the Russians,» she said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the strike by Russian troops on the city of Sumy, which killed at least 34 people, could have been a «mistake».
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that US President Donald Trump's approach to war, based on the principle of «peace through strength», is currently only applicable to Ukraine.
