Corruption, embezzlement and evasion of mobilization: the number of crimes in the defense sphere tripled in Mykolaiv Oblast

In 2023, the number of registered criminal proceedings in the field of defense increased threefold in the Mykolaiv region.

Such statistics were announced during a briefing by the head of the Mykolaiv specialized prosecutor's office in the field of defense of the Southern region, Andrii Klopov, NikVesti reports.

According to Andrii Klopov, the dynamics and structure of crime in the military sphere have changed radically during martial law. In 2023, the special prosecutor's office sent 412 indictments to the court, of which 13 were in the field of economy and 9 in the field of corruption, and another 7 related to obtaining an illegal benefit.

He cited several examples of criminal liability to which military personnel were charged. So, in particular, an indictment was sent to the court on the charge of the commander of one of the military units, who caused the embezzlement of state funds in the total amount of 715 thousand hryvnias.

The commander of the repair platoon, who received a bribe in the amount of 20,000 hryvnias for not bringing the serviceman to administrative responsibility, was also brought to criminal responsibility.

An indictment was also sent to the court against the senior inspector of the audit department, a colonel, who received an illegal benefit in the amount of 80,000 hryvnias for influencing the head of the audit group due to the fact that the detected violations were not reflected in the audit report.

In addition, in the last quarter, law enforcement officers exposed three people who offered services for providing an illegal postponement of the mobilization, says Andrii Klopov.

At present, 21 officials have been brought to administrative responsibility, including two military unit commanders and 19 unit commanders,» Andriy Klopov said.
