Slovakia plans to allocate additional funding to support Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the amount of 500,000 euros and 300,000 euros for the construction of shelters in Ukrainian schools in the frontline regions.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko during a joint media statement with Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico.

She thanked the Slovak side for its continued support and assistance.

«We appreciate your decision to allocate additional funds to support our energy infrastructure and also to support shelters. It is extremely important for Ukrainian children to be able to continue their education offline and not lose the necessary level of knowledge,» said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine is preparing for a difficult winter period and counts on further support from Slovakia.

«Our teams in the energy sector have made significant progress on specific projects for the mutually beneficial use of our country's infrastructure. I think that coordination on energy security cooperation will help us get through a difficult period,» she said.

Svyrydenko also expressed her gratitude to Slovakia for its attention to defence issues, stressing that cooperation between the two countries in this area is moving to a new practical level.

She also said that further meetings with representatives of the Slovak government are planned to be held in Ukraine.

Subsequently, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, clarified that the Slovak Government had decided to provide Ukraine with a package of energy equipment worth €500,000, as well as €300,000 for the construction of shelters in schools in the frontline regions.

He also noted that the SAFE mechanism aimed at strengthening Ukraine's resilience and the further development of the PURL initiative were discussed during the talks.

In addition, the Foreign Minister said that by the end of 2025, Ukraine plans to open a consulate in Presov, in eastern Slovakia. According to him, this will help improve the provision of consular services for the Ukrainian community in the country.

Earlier, the European Union announced that it would provide the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) with additional funding of €12 million to support Ukrainians affected by the war and in need of winter assistance.
