Agricultural exports in Mykolaiv region decreased, while imports of machinery set records

In the first two months of 2025, businesses in Mykolaiv region exported goods worth more than $90 million, while imports reached almost $110 million. Electric machinery, transport and reactors were imported the most, while grain exports declined.

This is evidenced by the data of the Main Department of Statistics in Mykolaiv region, according to NikVesti.

Compared to the same period in 2024, exports increased by 48.7%, while imports increased by 2.6 times — by 160.7%. This resulted in a negative foreign trade balance of $19.8 million, although last year it was positive — $116.5 million. The import-export coverage ratio has deteriorated significantly, from 2.7 in 2024 to 0.82 this year.

Foreign trade operations were conducted with 86 countries. The main export destinations were Italy, Spain, Turkey, Algeria, Egypt, and Belgium. The largest imports came from China, Turkmenistan, Austria, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, and Poland.

The European Union remains a key trading partner: 62.4 per cent of the region's exports and 35.4 per cent of its imports were to EU countries.

Mykolaiv region's foreign trade saw a drop in agricultural exports. In particular, supplies of grain crops decreased by 49% to $46.6 million. Exports of seeds and oilseeds fell by 43.7% to $16.3 million, and fats and oils of animal and vegetable origin by 56.6% to $12.6 million.

At the same time, imports of machinery are showing rapid growth. The largest increase was in the import of electric machines, up 393.8% to USD 22.4 million. Imports of land transport (except for rail) also increased significantly — by 41.1%, to $14 million, and nuclear reactors, boilers and machinery — by 21.5%, to $12.1 million.

Earlier it was reported that in March, public transport fares in Mykolaiv region rose by 21.2% and eggs by 18.1%, while lard fell by 8%. The overall inflation rate in the region for the month was 1.4%.
