The Anti-Corruption Initiative of the European Union positively evaluated the report on the verification of Mykolaiv's receipt and use of international aid for the first third of 2024.

This is stated on the Facebook page of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative.

They noted that «Mykolaiv is the first and only city in Ukraine that has implemented and is successfully monitoring international aid.»

Back in May 2024, the mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych presented a web portal, which became the main platform for reporting on the receipt and use of international aid.

Currently, the specialists of the Department of Internal Financial Control, Supervision and Anti-Corruption of the City Council have already checked the aid that came to Mykolaiv in the period from January to April 2024. No violations were found. And the corresponding report is posted on the web portal, which was developed with the support of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative.

In total, specialists checked 11 structural subdivisions and 25 communal enterprises. They reviewed the available humanitarian aid, checked its accounting, storage and use. These include, in particular, equipment, computer equipment, generators, vehicles and construction materials.

Anti-corruption initiative of the EU

The EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI) is the EU's largest international technical assistance project in the fight against corruption, funded by the EU, co-financed and implemented by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Its purpose is to support anti-corruption reforms and increase the capacity of newly created anti-corruption institutions in Ukraine. The initiative also improves transparency and accountability in the public sector by involving citizens in active participation in anti-corruption processes.

For example, with the support of the EU Anti-corruption Initiative, they developed a report on the verification of aid that came to Mykolaiv in the period from January to April 2024. Mykolaiv became the first and only city in Ukraine that introduced and «successfully carries out» monitoring of international aid, they added.

The head of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI), Allan Pag Christensen, said that anti-corruption institutions in Ukraine are performing well and handling more cases than ever before, working in conditions of reduced staff and reduced funding.
